Before the Sun Went Down
Before the Sun Went Down

Oh, Lord, the agony and pain You endured
Just to make all of us sinners pure.
Hatred and yelling near You abound
And all of this before the sun went down.

They made You carry a cross made of splintery wood
No other the weight could they have withstood.
They flogged You and kicked You till You fell to the ground
And all of this before the sun went down.

You were thrown mercilessly on that cross as it lay in the dirt
And then the nails through Your flesh, oh, how it did hurt
What an awful heart wrenching terrible sound
And all of this before the sun went down.

The crown of thorns made Your blood flow
And still they hit You with pounding blow after blow
With bloody, tearful eyes You hung on that cross in the ground
And all of this before the sun went down.

You gasped for the last bit of Your breath
And finally it came, the end of Your agonizing death.
From this torn, bloody body we never heard another sound
And all of this before the sun went down.
